These are the "jobs to be done." The interesting part is breaking these jobs into bits and understand how different tasks are actually business opportunities. First, we must assume the principle that customers pick goods and services to complete a certain task (from filling their paperwork to delivering their shopping). The JTBD comes from business authors Lance Bettencourt and Anthony W. That's where the Jobs To Be Done framework comes in. How can we limit these personal inputs in the user research process? And how can we streamline the whole Product Development process along with Product Discovery, process, and growth? One of the most important phases, therefore, is research. There are many user research techniques, from interviews, focus groups, surveys, feedback… All of them aim to collect data, reflect on past mistakes, build on strengths, and reiterate.Īt the same time, they can be plagued by assumptions: you need to have a preconceived understanding of your destination before drafting your survey, building your focus group script or conducting a phone call.
